Every decision has an impact on the success. The hotter the project, the more important it is to have good information early. Rapid Prototypes and Rapid Tools The cost of failure, on schedule or product, far outweighs the cost of reliable information up front. Prototypes made in the production material, and made with the production process can deliver that information. The value of "production material" parts in the early stages of product development can not be overstated! They allow the project team to get real information from real parts, early in the program - when design changes are least painful, and while there is still time to react. They take the guess work out of decisions. Will the product meet tough environmental specs? Is the assembly as easy at it looks on the screen? No need for heated debate in meeting after meeting - test the parts and get on with it. As a communication tool, nothing beats having the real part in your hand. Prototype Early and Prototype Often
